The Newtown Tennis Association’s first Newtown Junior Classic Tennis Tournament, which offered age specific divisions for girls and boys, was held at Treadwell Park in early October. There were 47 participants, including first time players and children who got to play in a match for the first time. Attendees received instruction as they learned to keep score and get a taste of the game.

“I am very happy with the results and the number of the participants,” said Habby Farah, who organized and ran the event along with Brett Teolis, Maryann Becker, Mike Grasso, Glenn Boyle, and Nancy Anderson. “We accomplished what we wanted to get people interested in the game of tennis.”

U10 player Emily Anderson was runner up, left, and Nora Grealis was champ.

U12 coed champ Frankie Cannizzo, left, runner up James Walton.

U14 champ is Kyle Ruddy, left, and runner up is Ryan McConnon.

U18 champ is Sam Cannizzo, left, and runner up is Max Fuligni.

U18 champ is Sophia Islam, left, and runner up is Julia Dolan.
